Hello! My name is Alina Misailescu and I’m specialist in prosthetics and aesthetic dentistry and also the medical director of Velvet Dental Clinics – a dental clinic from Bucharest, Romania, which includes all dental specialities. I started as a dental technician when I graduated ”Colegiul de Tehnica Dentara Carol Davila” and after that I realised that I want much more so in 2007 I graduated the Faculty of Dentistry at the “Titu Maiorescu University of Medicine and Pharmacy”. Since then I attended various courses and congresses so I can be aware of everything new in this area.

How long have you been in business?

Velvet Dental Clinics started it’s activity in 2003 and since then we continue to be one of the largest dental services supplier in Romania under conditions of safety, comfort, refinement and elegance. I personally started working at Velvet Dental Clinics in 2009.

How many dental implant procedures have you done? What is your success rate?

Our Specialists in Implantology performed over 2000 implants with a rate of success of 95%.

Where do most of your patients come from? How do they hear about your clinic?

Most of our patients are locals and they hear about us from our many ways of promotion and recommendation. Also, especially during the holidays, we have many foreign patients coming from Italy, Spain, UK or USA.

What procedures do you typically recommend and perform?

Each patient is important for us and is treated as a special case. We recommend and perform every procedure that is suitable for the patient.

What type of implants does your clinic use?

We have many types of implants: Alpha Bio, Megagen, Strauman or Bredent.

Can you please provide a quick description of the surgical procedure at your clinic?

The procedure can be made painlessly under local anaesthesia. In some cases, sedation may be available, which helps you to relax and make you less aware of the procedure.

The first stage of the procedure, after making an Rx for measuring the implant which is going to be placed, is an incision through the gum and preparation of a hole in the bone. The implant is gently screwed or tapped into this hole. We can also place an implant straight away after a tooth is removed. Implants can also be placed into the jawbone long after a tooth has been removed and the socket has healed.

Once the implant is in place, the gum is stitched over it and the area is left to heal. Stitches are normally removed after about a week here, in our clinic or in the patient’s country in every dental clinic. It’s a 2 minute procedure.

During the healing period, a temporary bridge or partial denture can be made so that you cannot see the spaces between the remaining teeth.

In some cases, your implants may be stable enough to have a temporary crown or bridge fitted straight after the implant is placed in the jawbone.

After an appropriate healing time, a second, smaller surgical procedure will be made to uncover the gum over the top of the implant. Now, your dentist can take impressions to allow the crown, bridge or denture to be made. Your dentist will ensure that they fit properly, match your other teeth and feel comfortable.

How much do your procedures cost?

For Alpha Bio is $560 USD, for Megagen is $775 USD, for Strauman is $1110 USD and for Bredent All on 6 – 6000 EURO ($6700 USD based on current rates) or Bredent All on 4 – 5000 EURO ($5590 USD).

Separate, there are two options for crowns on implants:

1. metalic-ceramic crown on implant 250 USD
2. zirconium – ceramic crown on implant 445 USD

What payment methods do you accept?

At Velvet Dental, we offer you some alternatives to cash payments. You can either pay with credit cards or bank transfer, and for companies, we accept money order.

How many trips to Romania are required to get one or two implants?

Are required two visits.

The first visit is for the implant placement and the next day for the check-up and the second visit is for prosthetics stage – dental crown on implant, after 1-3 months from the first visit and will require a 10 days visit.

How long is the healing time for patients who get dental implants?

The healing time is between 1 to 3 months depending of the type of implant. For up to 10 implants you need only an appointment. What exceeds over 10 implants is better to do it in 2 sessions.

What do advise your patients to do if they have a problem with their implant?

This happens very rarely. If the implant becomes loose during the healing period or just after, then it is easily removed and healing takes place in the normal way. Once the jaw has healed, another implant can be placed there by free. For the removal of the implant they can book an appointment in their country but for the replacement they need to come there in our clinic.

What other costs would there be for someone travelling to your clinic from North America

The air ticket from US to Bucharest Romania may costs from $800 up to $1000.

You can accommodate in a 3-4 star hotel which costs around $45/night including breakfast.

Is it safe in Romania?

Surely! Romania is a beautiful country with many places to visit. Bucharest, the capital, also called Little Paris, is the tenth city in population in the European Union and will provide many enjoyable activities no matter the season.

Does a patient need to be able to speak Romanian?

No! 90% of the population of Bucharest speaks and understands English.

What is the best time of year to travel to Romania?

The best temperature to combine both the dental work and the vacation is in spring where the temperature is between 20-25 C.
